A Special Reunion After Five Years
After a five-year hiatus, I had the pleasure of performing at the Yokosuka New Year Concert! It was an experience that words alone cannot capture. Being abroad most of the time, the joy of rehearsing and chatting in Japanese felt incredibly special. The audience was filled with locals, each with their own unique connections to the area.
I think I enjoyed this concert the most. The sea breeze and the energy of the land really recharged my spirit. Now, I’m ready to power up for another year in Belgium! 😊

The Thrill of Performance
The Yokosuka New Year Concert is not just about having fun. The arrangements by Yoshiko Uchida always create moments for each instrument to shine, adding a layer of excitement. This year, I tackled some challenging pieces:
🎼 A rendition of "Bolero" on the shinobue (I want a rematch!)
🎼 The opening solo from "Cavalleria Rusticana"
🎼 The soprano counter-melody from "Toast Song"
These moments really made me feel alive. It’s true what they say: “Adults playing seriously” perfectly describes the atmosphere.

A Nostalgic Vibe
The green room was a blast, filled with that quintessential Japanese energy. Alongside classical pieces, we played nostalgic tunes like those from Glenn Miller and "Treasure Island," which brought back fond memories for many of us who were in the brass band during high school. Friends from my old band came to listen, making it a serious yet dreamlike experience.

The Power of Community
The concert was more than just a performance; it was a celebration of community. The connections made through music are truly special. Each note played resonated with the audience, creating a shared experience that was both uplifting and memorable.
As I reflect on the concert, I feel grateful for the opportunity to share my passion for music. It's moments like these that remind us of the joy and beauty that music brings into our lives.
In conclusion, the Yokosuka New Year Concert was a delightful reunion filled with laughter, nostalgia, and powerful performances. I can’t wait to return and do it all over again!
