I spent two weeks in late July immersed in music at Flaine, a village in the French Alps for the Music Academy in Flaine (opus 74) . At an altitude of 1,600m, it’s a premier European summer resort with views of the famous Mont Blanc, just about an hour from Geneve.

There were many concerts by both tutors and students. The performances were wonderful, covering a variety of genres. I particularly enjoyed the accordionist's playing and the cheerful performances by a Czech flute and cello duo (last year, they played a delightful piece by Martinů!). I performed a shinobue solo (David Loeb's "Seicho") and a duet of "Haru no Umi" with piano.
The Academy will be held again at the same time next year, and I'll be offering flute and shinobue lessons. It's a very international environment with people from many countries & any levels, so join us next year!
